Welcome, Delta Alumni

We're glad that you have found your way back to Delta Chapter!!

Printed in the most recent Beta Sig, Delta Chapter newsletter:

"Greetings Brothers,

This year certainly was a test for Delta Chapter's brotherhood. Finishing last school year, the chapter was very top heavy. Out of the 13 members we had, six graduated. For various reasons, four of the remaining actives also left the fraternity. But fear not, "For gold is tried in the fire and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity." Beginning the new decade, Delta Chapter activated three new, dedicated members. Though it once looked uncertain, Delta Chapter is at a turning point.

This semester, the entire active chapter traveled down to Kansas City for the New Membership Education Forum. Lined up to play the Alum team in the basketball tournament, the opportunity was taken away at a two-point quarterfinal loss. Though the destined game didn't happen this year, it seems only a matter of time until fate plays out.

Back home, athletics were once again strong. Delta Chapter played flag football, basketball, and broomball. The Chapter made it to playoffs in each sport with strong showings.

The group's commitment to spiritual aspects of the fraternity has remained steady. All members actively serve the church, whether through ushering, communion assistance, church council membership, or band participation. The group also started organizing a coed Greek bible study that will hopefully develop more in the coming years.

The Chapter's scholastic performance this year was above par. The group had a fall semester GPA of 3.149 (tenth out of 29 fraternities); this type of academic excellence is expected to continue.

Socially, the Chapter continues to remain involved in the community. Specifically, we volunteered multiple times at the People's City Mission and helped raise funds for Lincoln's Angel Tree, a Christmas gift-buying event for underprivileged children. The group relaxed by attending home football games (Suhhh!!!), going to other Greek fundraisers, and developing what might be a diagnosable addiction to pool. It seems like everyday, the members invade the Lutheran Student Center to play a few rounds of 8-ball. This next year, many of the members are also going to be renting a large house, with the hope that the residence will serve as an asset to the fraternity.

To finish the year, the group visited Epsilon Chapter at Iowa State. The road trip was a good break from stressful school work, and also afforded members a chance to see the debauchery that is VEISHEA, Iowa State's end of the year festival.

Despite all the good times and participation the Chapter has had, the group is beginning to face pressure from the University's IFC. Recently, a new rule was made that active chapters must maintain a 30 member minimum; currently at six members, we are obviously in violation of this regulation. This issue will hopefully be resolved soon, but the best way to make sure it is not a future problem is to continue growing! For this reason, the actives of Delta humbly request any and all assistance from the alumni. The biggest help that you could provide is to recommend any Lutheran high school men that are considering attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Let us know of any names you think would make strong members in the fraternity. If you feel comfortable with the individual, consider approaching them and introducing them to the ideas of Beta Sigma Psi. Most importantly, please let us know how to contact them!

While the group is dedicated to bringing Delta Chapter back, the endeavor will be tough to meet alone. The next few years will be one of the greatest opportunities for the Chapter to really come together and show the true colors of Beta Sigma Psi. If you know of any one that would make a good rushee, or if you have any other comments, advice, or ways you could help the Chapter, please let Josh Branchaud or myself know. Feel free to email us at betasigmapsi.delta@gmail.com or visit the Chapter's website, http://delta.betasigmapsi.org/.
