Beta Sigma Psi was formed at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1929. Soon after Delta was chartered the Great Depression hit. By 1942, Delta was only one of two Beta Sig chapters left. A young Delta member named Del Lieneman took it upon himself to breathe life back into the national fraternity. When World War II was over, and campuses began to fill back up with young men, Del guided Delta and the national fraternity in it's growth. "Del Lienemann retired from his position in 1964. For 22 years he had served as the volunteer administrative head of the Fraternity, but by that time the Fraternity had nine chapters and could hire a full-time staff member. Because of his contributions, our Fraternity's highest award is named for him."1
Throughout the 1960's, 70's and 80's Delta chapter was the flagship of Beta Sigma Psi. The fraternity consistently had over 60 members every year and was well known at UNL. Members enjoyed having apartment style housing, located at 22nd & T streets, just east of campus. In 1995 the chapter shut down due to low recruitment numbers. This was a sad day for Beta Sigma Psi because it meant that it's strongest chapter was no longer active.
In the fall of 2003, alumni members began the process of re colonizing the chapter. During the "colony" stage, the fraternity continued to grow and prosper. After two years of hard work and dedication by members, alumni and friends; Delta was re-chartered on September 3rd, 2006. The ceremony was held at the Univerisy Lutheran Chapel on UNL's campus. Over 100 family, friends and alumni were in attendance to see 16 members sign the "new" Delta charter. Today we are gaining momentum and are looking forward to an exciting future at UNL.
